UK plans nation-wide firewall to fight cyberattacks

UK's Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is planning to create an automatic defence tool called "Great British Firewall"  to block malicious websites countrywide and face cyber attacks threatening national security.

The project will be coordinated by the upcoming National Cyber Security Centre, a public-facing arm of GCHQ which will open next month to better coordinate the UK’s digital defence efforts.

The project is involving private service providers such as BT, Sky and Virgin Media.

Intel to spin off cybersecurity unit McAfee

Intel is spinning out McAfee, the security software division it acquired in 2011, in a deal that values the company at $4.2 billion.

The move comes six years after Intel announced the acquisition of McAfee, one of the leading antivirus software companies at the time.

In 2014, Intel rebranded McAfee as Intel Security in an attempt to distance itself from its colorful founder. The company will now revert back to the McAfee name once the deal is closed, which is expected to happen by mid-2017. Intel Security general manager Chris Young is taking over as CEO.

La Directiva europea de Seguridad en Redes y Sistemas de Información (NIS) representa el primer paso en regulación sobre ciberseguridad a nivel de la Unión Europea.
La entrada en vigor de la Directiva NIS se programó para Agosto de 2016. Los Estados Miembros tendrán desde entonces 21 meses para implementar esta  directiva en sus legislaciones nacionales, y 6 meses más para identificar a los operadores de servicios esenciales.

Helping SMEs to boost their cyber security with CyberWISER Light


A new report issued by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) revealed that SMEs are actually more exposed to cyber attack than lager companies.

According to the study, smaller firms are collectively attacked seven million times per year, costing the UK economy an estimated £5.26 billion.
The most serious threats are managing malware which cost £7.5bn last year while data theft incidents cost £6.2bn.
