According to SIDN, the organisation that runs the .nl domain, Dutch banks are falling behind organisations in other sectors when it comes to securing domains.
The study of Dutch organisations’ adoption of domain name system security extensions (DNSSEC) found that 46% of .nl domains are using the security protocol, with banks scoring the worst of all investigated domains for the second time in a row. Only 6% of banks using .nl internet addresses have the security protocol DNSSEC in place to protect their digital assets and their customers.
DNSSEC involves the cryptographic protection of domain name information. If a domain name is secured with DNSSEC, people who want to visit the associated website are protected against being misdirected to a fraudster's IP address.
